About the producer

Fermier — Niigata
Where the Shinano River — Japan's longest — dissolves into the coastal sand dunes of the Sea of Japan, Takashi Honda found his calling. In 2006, Honda left a corporate life in Tokyo to return to his hometown and pursue a singular ambition: to make wines that speak purely of their place. That place is Echizenhama, a stretch of sandy shoreline unique in Japan, yielding wines of elegant aromatics and the gentle, refined character that defines Japanese viticulture — yet deepened by a concentrated umami and an unmistakable mineral thread from the sea.
Guided by Hugh Johnson's conviction that a truly fine wine is one that compels people to talk, Honda works as a vigneron in the fullest sense — tending his vines with patience, trusting the land's natural rhythm, and producing small-batch wines that could only ever come from the soil and spirit of Niigata.
