Tasting from winery
Simple, crisp, and well-balanced, providing a pleasant drinking experience. The year 2023, blessed with minimal rain and excellent weather, resulted in concentrated aromas and sweetness
Our standard dry white wine fully brings out the inherent charm of the Koshu grape variety. It is simple, crisp, and well-balanced, providing a pleasant drinking experience. The year 2023, blessed with minimal rain and excellent weather, resulted in concentrated aromas and sweetness, making it perhaps the best vintage of the past decade.
Koshu grapes harvested at different ripening stages are pressed in batches of 2000 to 4000 kg. Fermentation takes place over 2 to 3 weeks at low initial temperatures using multiple yeast strains. After spending one winter in stainless steel tanks, the wine is bottled.
About the producer
Nationally Registered Tangible Cultural Property
In the distant Sengoku period, the Oso region of Kai Province was home to the Kurokawa gold miners. Our family has preserved a vermillion-seal letter granted by the Takeda family in 1543. In 1834, Kaikei Kazama founded our sake brewing business. In 1986 (Showa 61), Kai Winery Co., Ltd. was established in the same historic brewery residence.
Since our founding, we have aimed to create high-quality wines that complement the delicate palate and food culture of the Japanese, while infusing new life into our traditional techniques.
Our main building, wine storage cellar, library, and café are designated as nationally registered tangible cultural properties, with ages ranging from 150 to 200 years. These buildings reflect Enzan’s historical sericulture industry.

Brewery
Situated north of the winery, our brewery houses essential equipment, including stainless steel tanks and presses, producing approximately 30,000 bottles annually. It’s especially fragrant during certain seasons.
All vineyards are in Koshu City, growing Koshu, Merlot, Barbera, and more. The southern vineyard, with older vines known for "rose clusters," offers walking tours and scenic views year-round.
