Tasting from winery

This white wine is crafted from Chardonnay grapes grown in the four districts of Takahata Town (Kameoka, Takahata, Yashiro, and Wada), each vinified separately to pursue the best expression of fruitiness. Grapes with particularly high ripeness are selected from the harvest and blended after multiple trials to achieve the optimal flavor profile. By adjusting the composition of the yeast used and emphasizing a solid structure, the wine exhibits a rich aroma reminiscent of ripe peaches, pears, and citrus fruits, combined with subtle floral notes. Upon tasting, it reveals a luscious and concentrated fruitiness with a well-balanced acidity that carries through to the finish. This luxurious wine allows you to fully appreciate the richness of Takahata-produced Chardonnay without leaving any behind.

About the producer

A world-class producer representing Tohoku

Located in Yamagata Prefecture, Takahata Winery is a renowned producer representing the Tohoku region at a global standard. Founded in 1990 by Honbo Sake Brewery, which had achieved success in Mars Wine production in Kagoshima Prefecture, the winery aims to become a "premium winery" on par with renowned wine-producing regions worldwide, striving for excellence in winemaking according to international standards. Situated near Takahata Station, the winery enjoys a convenient location for tourism, attracting numerous visitors annually and becoming a major tourist destination in Yamagata.

Takahata Winery is situated in Takahata Town, located in the southern part of Yamagata Prefecture in the Okitama Basin. Known for its flourishing fruit cultivation since ancient times, the region shares the same latitude of 38 degrees north as Napa Valley in the United States and Greece.

The history of grape cultivation dates back to the early Meiji period, with Takahata Town boasting the highest shipment volume of Chardonnay and Delaware grape varieties at the municipal level nationwide. The region experiences significant temperature fluctuations from summer to autumn, with temperature differences reaching up to 20 degrees Celsius. This prolonged grape cultivation period results in grapes with rich sugar content, acidity, and mineral flavors. Particularly, Chardonnay has become a symbol of Takahata Town, producing wines with a full-bodied fruity flavor balanced with a pronounced acidity.

About the Production Area

Japan Yamagata Prefecture

Harnessing the blessings of its terroir, it stands as the premier wine-producing region in Tohoku.

Yamagata Prefecture, renowned for its cherries and La France pears, boasts ideal conditions for grape cultivation due to its significant diurnal temperature variation and minimal rainfall in autumn. As a result, it proudly holds the title of the number one wine-producing region in Tohoku. With notable wineries like Takahata Winery and Takeda Winery among its 14 establishments, Yamagata is emerging as a noteworthy wine region, focusing on winemaking that harnesses the blessings of its terroir rather than being confined to specific grape varieties.
